I have been neglecting writing.  I started a new job and I simply am too tired at night to do anything, but sit next to the bub while we take turns playing Guitar Hero, watching Dog the Bounty Hunter, a murder/detective themed show, or pretending to watch something while I'm secretly falling asleep.  My commute is far less than it was at my previous job, but one must still factor in the 2 hour commute and 7 hours of standing on my feet while wearing fitness shoes.  The benefit of the physically grueling job is that I get a 1 hour lunch break.  That is simply, unheard of in my profession.  To further elicit the effects of walking and standing all day I wear my Reebok EasyTone fitness shoes while at work and then always try to get some form of exercise after my shift, whether it be personal training or cardio on my own.  All these factors together contribute to my fatigue. 

Personal training is still awesome.  I have a hard time always motivating myself, especially when it comes to doing something other than cardio.  And weights?  What is this concept?  So to be positively pushed and see and feel results is further motivation to make me want to work stronger and harder.  After my sessions are over, I feel like I can take away a lot of what I learned and continue pushing myself on my own.  If I get in a rut, so be it.  I know who to call...P-E-R-S-O-N-A-L T-O-R-T-U-R-E-S.  

Those shoes.  Those ridiculous shoes.  I know Reebok EasyTone's look bizarre, but if you go to Reebok.com you can costume color and design your very own EasyTone's.  I constantly get compliments from both my patient's, but mostly their husbands telling me how much they like my kicks, asking me what they are, and where to get them.  Justine is always ahead of the trend, old lady trend.  Respect.  On a serious note, I swear my these shoes.  They don't look as ridiculous as other fitness shoes and you really do feel a difference in your legs (and I imagine your abs, but I have strong abs already), especially when you where them for an 8 hour shift.  I don't think my legs have ever looked better, but this could also be a combination of the EasyTone's and Personal Training.  Regardless, if you do a lot of walking, I highly recommend this awesome invention. 

I love how the hardest question I'll have to ask for the next 3 weeks is which color scrubs?  Bright ass yellow, migraine inducing mirage, plain green, etc.  Poor me.

Review: SUN Laboratories • Ultra Dark Lotion

This is my current favorite sunless tanner.  It is by no means perfect, but it does the job. The Ultra Dark Lotion gives you a deep, dark, olive tan.  With one application I look like I've gone on vacation even in the height of winter. Many people say to use rubber gloves with this product, but I don't because I find it too hard to rub it in.  If it's not rubbed in you will look blotchy.  I cannot wear this lotion in bed over night.  The smell is horrid.  I always wash it off after 3-4 hours.  Much of the product will come in the shower since the tint you initially see is for application purposes. 

I think this product is affordable for how much you get.  Many of the larger Bed, Bath, and Beyond's that carry beauty products have this so you can save 20% on a bottle with a coupon.  Still cheaper than tanning.

Do It Yourself - Drug Interactions

This is a great website from drugs.com to check to see if your medications interact with each other.  Drug-drug interactions can pose negative consequences or reduce the efficacy of other medications (certain meds with birth control), have a synergistic effect (two meds making your blood pressure drop too low), etc.  Thus it's very important to know how your medications interact.  This includes all over the counter (OTC) meds as well.  Make sure to add all your medications to observe for any potential interactions.  I was surprised that upon getting new medications today no one discussed this with me.  Further, if you scroll further down the website will tell you drug-food interactions, which are also very important.

I'm exhausted, in more ways then one.  

I'm also not surprised and was waiting for this.  

You put yourself into situations.  So my advice, make sure they are really nice, cause one day everything changes.  Ta da...and the curtain rises.

It's been years since I have lifted weights regularly.  Further, more time has elapsed since I have had an actually 1 on 1 training session with a personal trainer.  When my new gym offered to give me a free personal training session, I reluctantly accepted.  I don't want someone telling me, run faster chubster.  (That's not what happened in the least.)  I worked muscles I never knew existed and those that I thought I had lost the ability to utilize years ago.  After my session I felt so refreshed and strong.  While I was slightly sore that day, I was definitely sore one day after and really sore two days post training session.  I'm talking soreness to the point of having a difficult time walking.

What I found doing some online research is that many people new to lifting will be sore two days after working out.  This is a sign that you worked hard enough for your body to grow stronger.  So sometimes, pain is a good thing.  Your body is strong and your body is working!  (What the pain is is the build up of lactic acid which is the fuel your muscles use when they need energy.)

The best advice I found to deal with this pain is to workout the next day, even if it is using a different muscle group.  Also, within one hour of your workout eat a potassium rich fuel low in sugar such as a banana.  And drink lots of H20.

This is a bad time to try to find a job in my line of work.  I'm exhausted.  It feels like all I do is apply to jobs and have no leads.  I know in reality I haven't been looking that long, but I feel like I've put a lot of effort in my search already.  Blah!  Sad face.

iPhones.  Many of us have them.  More of us would love to have them.  But maybe they aren't as great as we think.  One feature on the iPhone I definitely would prefer not to have is "Show Image Location."  Are you following?

Alright, say you are taking a picture.  Before you taking the picture a screen pops up asking if you would like to use your current location?  

Now I have never clicked "OK" before and accidently last night I did.  Not thinking anything of it, I was shocked to learn this morning that instead of the picture I had intended to post online, there was a pinpoint on a map that literally showed where I live.  That is scary on many levels.  The picture looked something like the following:

How you can turn off this feature so you don't have to worry about such an incident happening to you is to go to the main Menu. Select:

• Location Service
• Switched the tab off

Sunless tanner reviews: Bain de Soleil Radiance Eternelle and Sun Giesee's Ultra Dark Self Tanning Aerosol Spray

The boyfriend doesn't like it when I lay under those amaZING artifical lights and have the best 12 minutes of sun therapy, so I am on a mission to find the best sunless tanner on the market. 

Bain de Soleil Radiance Eternelle: The stuff dreams are made of...

I used to buy this discontinued brand sometimes as low as $3.99 on sale at drugstore.com.  $3.99 from $17.  Those were the good old days.  I could stock up, literally fill up my cabinets, and know that I was going to have a hot, sexy glow for months to come. I personally like looking like Malibu beach Barbie ever chance I get.  No it's homer simpson Barbie, but I will find a tanning lotion!  Anyway...

No one could tell that this tan came from a bottle.  Over the years I've recommended this lotion to others who have also jumped on the bandwagon and then some genius at Bain de Soleil decided they would discontinue the golden child and keep the other tanning lotions that turn you orange.  If I wanted to look orange, I'd stick with Neutrogena.  You can still find this wonderful lotion, which comes in Medium-Dark and Dark (don't bother with Light-Medium) online, but it will now set you back $49.99 on Ebay or $61.95 + on Amazon.  Yes, that is for 1 bottle.  Like, I said, this artificial crap was amazing.  I happen to have 3 bottles left.  Be jealous, very jealous. 

Verdict: Pure awesomeness...IF you can get your hands on a bottle

Sun Giesee's Ultra Dark Self Tanning Aerosol Spray (Dark):

This is supposed to be a revolutionary tanning product since you can spray yourself "evenly all over...without ever having to rub it in."  Talk about gimmick gone wrong.  You can spray your whole body, but you are covered in dark patches.  Regardless if you follow the directions and spray 6 inches away, the dark splotches result.  Now you have to get your hands dirty and rub in the mess and no matter how much you try to scrub this chemical off it is there to stay.  So say hello to hobo hands (and feet unless you are really careful).  It's also very hard to try to color the backs of your hands once you have finally cleaned your palms.  While the color that developes is nice and dark (olive like), I just find this product to messy and complicated compared to other products out there.  

Verdict:  Just don't bother

This quote is now a well known proverb.  It traces back to the bible and even further back to Cicero.  Shakespeare and modern musicians take inspiration from this.  But what does it mean?  

I have no idea what my soul looks like, nor that of another.  I could perhaps tell you my aurora, but we're talking souls here.  Sometimes we walk down the street and we make eye contact for a brief moment.  Nothing.  Other times we look into another's eyes and are fixated in a strong hold.  It can be comforting, chilling, loving, tender, lust inducing ... there are a magnitude of emotions and feelings that can takeover you. *Spoiler* Shopgirl Ending

I desperately searched for clips of my 3 favorite quotes from Shopgirl, but nothing.  
 
The premise of the movie is a young woman falls in love with an older man who cannot open his heart to her, or presumably anyone. And the story goes...

So I can hurt now or hurt later. Now I guess.

Utter sadness verbalized by Mirabelle as she realizes that no matter how much she loves Ray , being with him will only cause her anguish.  And so she leaves...

The quote is longer, however this is the important aspect.  Ray searches for Mirabelle in the women he meets and ends up content in his discontent.  However, Mirabelle, has presumably found reciprocal love, respect, and adoration with another who is more willing and able than Ray could ever be.

Bacon Mac with Green Onions

Yield: 6 Servings (approximately 1 cup)

Side note: Prep everything in advance. Once the pasta begins boiling start the sauce.  The milk takes longer than anticipated to boil

Ingredients:

• 3 1/4  teaspoons  salt, divided
• 12  ounces  whole wheat penne pasta
• 4  teaspoons all-purpose flour
• 1 1/2  cups  skim milk, divided
• 2  cups finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided (I like the New Zealand Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese from Trader Joe's)
  
• 1/4  cup  sliced green onions or Chives
  
• 1  teaspoon  hot sauce (the spicer, the better)
  
• 1/4  teaspoon  pepper
• 2  slices center-cut bacon, cooked and crumbled
• Cooking spray

 The How To:

1. Preheat broiler.

2. Bring 6 quarts water and 1 tablespoon salt to a boil. Add pasta; cook 8 minutes or until al dente; drain.

3. Combine flour and 1/2 cup milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Gradually add 1 cup milk; bring to a boil. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; let stand 4 minutes or until it cools to 155°. Stir in 1 1/2 cups cheese. Add 1/4 teaspoon salt, onions, hot sauce, pepper, and bacon; stir. Add pasta; toss. Spoon into a 2-quart broiler-safe dish coated with cooking spray; top with 1/2 cup cheese. Broil 7 minutes.

Side note: Since I forgot to put the chives in during set 3 we blended them in the magic bullet with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese that needed to be grated.  This made like cream cheese like consistency that was delicious and that I put on chunks of the pasta concoction to be broiled.  The finished product will not be green on top if you follow the above directions.

The Big Texan

My new profile pic was taken after consuming a glorious meal of chicken fried steak at The Big Texan in Amarillo, TX during the road trip with the boyfriend.  

The limo with the steers is the free limo that takes you to the restaurant if you stay at any of the hotels / motels in the fine city of Amarillo.  

The food was awesome, the challenge was fun to watch, the atmosphere was lively and I would go back in a heartbeat.  For those of you who don't know, Adam Richman of Man vs. Food came here for a segment on his Amarillo episode and attempted the 72 oz challenge which consists of eating 72 ounces of steaks with a side of baked potato, dinner roll, salad, and shrimp cocktail.  

That's 6 lbs of food in 1 hour.  Adam Richman was able to finish it, but the man we saw attempt to beat the mean piece of meat did not. 

The rain has started in the New York area.  Or presumably so.  The forecast says that it will be overcast tomorrow and this weekend I am going away to sunshine and hot tubs and land of hills and glute workouts! But never fear...Justine brought her Buddha umbrella.  No sad faces when they see this ray of light! 

I know this is a really stupid thing to feel a little butt hurt about, but the only people that called me to wish me a happy birthday were my family.  My besties didn't even call me and that really hurts.  I chose to move in my own direction.  I can't fault anyone for doing the same.  Still hurts.

Pauline's Pizza Pie is my favorite pizza place in San Francisco and quite possibly, the WORLD!  Not only do they have amaZING pizza, but how cute is their half craft of house red?

It's barely bigger than the size of a wine glass, comparable to a bottle of vinegar.  Once again, another exemplar for Pauline's awesomeness.  

Sometimes, the stupidity of people, is shocking.  


If you are disrespectful, don't think I won't call your bluff.  I'm not a doormat.  

My biggest faults in life are that I'm easily impressionable.  

My favorite random thoughts from people 25-35 yearsold

1. A recent study has shown that playing beer pong contributes to the spread of mono and the flu. Yeah, if you suck at it.
2. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent asshole from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers!
3. More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.
   
4. Is it just me, or are 80% of the people in the "people you may know" feature on Facebook people that I do know, but I deliberately choose not to be friends with?
   
5. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I’m trying to finish a text.
6. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

A history lesson made fun

Next time you complain that it's raining cats and dogs or go to a June wedding and comment on the flowers (which probably cost thousands of dollars), you'll know something no one else around you does. Here are some enlightening facts from way back when:

 

People used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery.......if you had to do this to survive you were "Piss Poor." But worse than that were the really poor  folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot...........they "didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.

 
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June. However, since they were starting to smell . .. . Brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

 

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water!"

 

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."

 

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.

 

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, "Dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way. Hence: a thresh hold.

  

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme: Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old.

 

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, "bring home the bacon." They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat.

 

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

 

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.

 

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.

 

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, saved by the bell or was considered a dead ringer...

People say I'm a bad driver, but today I watched a woman who looked both ways turn onto a one way street. A car honked at her and then she proceeded to park, if you will, long enough for me to:

1. pull my iPhone out of my purse
2. go to the camera application
3. click "don't allow" current location to be known
4. and then take a picture of her finally reversing from her present spot.

Then I crossed the street and giggled as I thought about how the majority of the population in my new home are of a certain ethnicity that tends to be stereotyped as being bad drivers (case in point), and how I no longer can be called the worse driver!

It's really hard when the one person you want to talk to doesn't want to talk to you, yet they'll talk to everyone else. Not very conducive to making someone feel wanted.

Liquid Gold

Homer called olive oil "liquid gold" and rightly so. Olive oil serves many purposes.  We use it frequently in consumption, but there are many uses for this viscous substance that we may not think of.  For one, I swear that every time I eat bread, in moderation, with balsamic and oil, I get regular.  But according to this website it may aid with snoring!  Where has this substance been all my life? I know lots of people who I want to give a shot of this to before night time.  

This is a glimpse into my personality via my own birth chart. What's unique to me, will be different to another, based on when and where I was born. I love this shiitake!

This is truly a love story. If you have not seen this movie, you must. I watched it on the airplane yesterday and tried to muffle my tears, but could not. It is a powerful film and a tragic love story.

A young girl has a very vivid imagination. She wants to be a writer when she grows older. She sees something that is complicated and thus she doesn't fully understand the scope of what is occurring before her eyes. She accuses an older man, whom she also has feelings for, of hurting her cousin. She does this because he is in a relationship with her older sister. This false accusation separates him from the one he loves. For the rest of his life he cannot be with his love and the young girl punishes herself as well. She creates a story to be able to cope with her life and loosing everything, because in the end she has nothing but her tales. And the lovers are never reunited.

I'm way too sensitive for a lot of things in life, but when I get in a disagreement with someone, and we reach no resolution, boy does that eat away at me.  Worse yet when the other party just walks away and doesn't want to reach resolution, especially when I am still feeling ill about the ordeal, I feel a host of emotions from abandoned to unloved to unappreciated.  This is too much for me.

Do I even want to address this? There was so much evidence supporting the guilt of Rich and Michelle it amazes me. Physical evidence. There was an eye witness who didn't even want to testify and he did.  Why?  Because ultimately there are people who still do the right thing.  Apparently, it doesn't matter.  There will always be someone (aka a defense attorney) who believes in supporting the fucking devil.  Beautiful.  No one is going to hold your hand and lift the veil for you folks.  

SF cops are ridiculous. Everything they did was wrong. They let two murders get away despite the evidence.  Search warrants?  Nah, who needs them?  How many San Franciscans who didn't even know this man were outraged at the maltreatment? MANY. People all the way down to Southern California were so upset with the story and the performance, or I should say lack of, of SF cops that a man took matters into his own hands.  A single individual played detective and caught these two criminals in Mexico, who might I add, abducted their own daughter! Doesn't that speak magnitudes on their character?

No one is perfect, but Milo was neither a criminal or a murder. I'm shocked that this trial would end the way it did.  In his grave he was demoralized. Milo was a brilliant man. Well read, multi-lingual, a great mechanic, philosopher of sorts, traveler, computer geek. He was a good friend, father, partner. Now I have to re-mourn this again. Justice was not served.  Let the man rest in peace.

Excited!

I've wanted to go to the Grand Canyon ever since I saw the movie ever so appropriately titled Grand Canyon.  On my road trip I will get to stop in the desert and hike the South Kaibab Trail. This trail is described to be a very arduous day hike with no shade, but with exquisite views.  I'm excited, and how could I not be?
