Sushezi

I wanted a Sushezi and luckily got one for Christmas.  It is the coolest contraption ever.  One would look at the contraption and might possibly think that it is bollocks, but never fear.  This shit works!  It's as easy as the following:

1. Buying the ingredients (sushi rice, nori, veggies, fish, sauces, etc.).
2. Cooking the rice.
3. Chopping everything into small pieces.
4. Then you follow the direction or the video on the Sushezi website and fill the contraption with desired ingredients.
5. Place the rice roll in nori and roll it using water to seal edges.
6. Keep in fridge for 10 minutes so the roll can soften.
7. Using a real sharp knife cut the roll into desired pieces (cleaning the knife with each cut).
8. Enjoy!

The new Post Secret book comes out on October 6 and I couldn't be more excited.  These books are great.  Happy, hilarious, sometimes sad and tragic, but almost always real and that I gravitate towards.  I hadn't been keeping up with my Post Secret reading so warning, you may see a few in the immediate future.  My two favorites of the moment.
A recent secret from last Sunday I believe:

A secret handed to Frank at a recent post secret event:

If that isn't romantic then I don't know what is.

Bacon Mac with Green Onions

Yield: 6 Servings (approximately 1 cup)
Side note: Prep everything in advance. Once the pasta begins boiling start the sauce.  The milk takes longer than anticipated to boil

Ingredients:
  • 3 1/4  teaspoons  salt, divided
  • 12  ounces  whole wheat penne pasta
  • 4  teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2  cups  skim milk, divided
  • 2  cups finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided (I like the New Zealand Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese from Trader Joe's)
  • 1/4  cup  sliced green onions or Chives
  • 1  teaspoon  hot sauce (the spicer, the better)
  • 1/4  teaspoon  pepper
  • 2  slices center-cut bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • Cooking spray
 The How To:
1. Preheat broiler.
2. Bring 6 quarts water and 1 tablespoon salt to a boil. Add pasta; cook 8 minutes or until al dente; drain.
3. Combine flour and 1/2 cup milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Gradually add 1 cup milk; bring to a boil. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; let stand 4 minutes or until it cools to 155°. Stir in 1 1/2 cups cheese. Add 1/4 teaspoon salt, onions, hot sauce, pepper, and bacon; stir. Add pasta; toss. Spoon into a 2-quart broiler-safe dish coated with cooking spray; top with 1/2 cup cheese. Broil 7 minutes.

Side note: Since I forgot to put the chives in during set 3 we blended them in the magic bullet with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese that needed to be grated.  This made like cream cheese like consistency that was delicious and that I put on chunks of the pasta concoction to be broiled.  The finished product will not be green on top if you follow the above directions.

Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all.

Half Carafe

Pauline's Pizza Pie is my favorite pizza place in San Francisco and quite possibly, the WORLD!  Not only do they have amaZING pizza, but how cute is their half craft of house red?
It's barely bigger than the size of a wine glass, comparable to a bottle of vinegar.  Once again, another exemplar for Pauline's awesomeness.

I always loved Salt n Pepa

People say I'm a bad driver, but today I watched a woman who looked both ways turn onto a one way street. A car honked at her and then she proceeded to park, if you will, long enough for me to:
  1. pull my iPhone out of my purse
  2. go to the camera application
  3. click "don't allow" current location to be known
  4. and then take a picture of her finally reversing from her present spot.
Then I crossed the street and giggled as I thought about how the majority of the population in my new home are of a certain ethnicity that tends to be stereotyped as being bad drivers (case in point), and how I no longer can be called the worse driver!

3 signs

I needed some signs.  I got 3.  I feel much better.
3 facts on ladybugs:
  1. When a ladybug lands on you, it is said your wish will come true. (In a weird way I think I wished these events.)
  2. The Irish believe the ladybug to be a symbol of protection. (I have my forces protecting me during this time.  And I have my family angels.)
  3. Ancient farmers considered the ladybug to be a good omen because it controls aphid populations. (Thus, everything WILL workout!)
The quarter game: A game of luck to help answer questions, predict something unknown, ease anxiety.  I shake quarters in my hand and drop them on the ground around me without looking to see how they land.  In this situation, I attribute luck if more heads are face up.  Tada!  Lucky for me, everything will work out.  6 up /2 down. 3/1.  3 is my lucky number.

Virgo (Aug 23 - Sep 22)
Helping others and working towards the greater good always brings out the best in you and this week you're going to shine in both areas. It's next to impossible for you to say "no," even when you're feeling stretched to your limits. The truth is you like being of service to others, whether you receive any recognition for it or not. But take notice of those who ask for your help but never make any effort to repay the favor. There's a difference between offering a hand and being taken advantage of and it's time you figured that out. There's a chance that a minor disagreement at work will get blown out of proportion this week, so be ready to stand up for yourself and defend your actions. As your ruler moves into Leo on the 18th, you may surprise others with your forcefulness of your convictions and the strength of your words.
